It seems Newcastle United defender Fabian Schär managed to make a big comeback for Switzerland’s national team.
A story from Blick recalls that it seemed certain the centre-back would lose his place in the team, as manager Murat Yakin made it public that the player would be having a different role from now on.
The national team coach is said to be ‘unpredictable’, though, and proof of is that Schär hasn’t only been playing, but standing out too.
Blick point out the Newcastle player went ‘from prank candidate to beacon of hope’, as he ‘strikes back’ by being the ‘best on the pitch’.
It’s said he had no errors in the match against Denmark, and he’s been widely praised for his performance in the friendly.
So despite his poor matches last year, there’s now a much bigger chance he’ll continue having opportunities to prove himself with the national team. Starting with the match against Ireland on Tuesday evening.
The Newcastle player has 78 appearances for Switzerland, and will be in the squad for the Euros, where they’ll be playing Germany, Scotland and Hungary in Group A this summer.
