Newcastle United star Bruno Guimarães can’t hide how happy he is at the club.
The midfielder was now interviewed by Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, and in the long conversation, he many times affirmed he’s very satisfied to have signed for the Magpies.
Guimarães was still conquering his place in the national team at the time he joined Newcastle, and that was a year when he had to prove himself to make it to the World Cup.
Now he claims he did the right choice, especially because the club managed to fulfil everything they promised him.
“I think it was the best decision of my life, even though I was scared,” Bruno Guimarães told Globo Esporte.
“It was a gamble I made to consolidate myself in the World Cup squad. I knew that if I went to England and played well, my chances would be greatly increased. That’s what happened and I went to the Cup. Even though I= was a foreigner, the fact that I was a player for the Brazilian national team was important for the beginning of the project. They showed me everything I was going to mean and it really came true.”
Bruno Guimarães recalls that despite the takeover, Newcastle were having difficult days by the time he arrived there.
But the team managed to bounce back, and with the signings from the last summer, they could reach a completely new level, now guaranteeing a place in the next Champions League season.
“For me, it was even more special. When I arrived, it was already the new project, but the club was in the relegation zone, penultimate. A lot of people called me crazy, crazy for going there, but it was the best decision of my life.
“In the following season, we already got a place in the Champions League and stopped the city. I can’t even imagine what it’s going to be like if we’re champions. The guys are going to bring that down. It was special, a remarkable year for everyone. We stayed at the top four for almost 30 fixtures. We really deserve this Champions League.”
As for his future at the club, Bruno Guimarães claims to be fully on board with Newcastle’s project, always highlighting his relationship with the fans.
“I’m already an idol, it’s so cool. Even my father is famous as hell there (laughs). In a season and a half, we reached the Champions League, and the tendency is to improve. It’s a process that isn’t meant to be like PSG, signing the best. The guys think about the future.”
