It’s now been three weeks since Newcastle United took a trip to Italy to play AC Milan in the opening round of the Champions League, and that match is still being mentioned by the local media.
The reason for that today is that outlet Milan News managed to have a word with Magpies defender Dan Burn, who was asked to recall a couple of things about the draw at the San Siro.
There was a big feeing in the Italian media that Milan deserved to beat Newcastle because of the many chances they created in that game. Now they asked the Englishman whether he agrees with that, which he did, and that’s what their headline is all about.
“Yes, they had the best chances while we didn’t create much. Milan could have scored a few goals but it must be said that we defended well. In the end we were happy and the Rossoneri disappointed because maybe they knew they had to win. But a clean sheet in Milan in the first game after a 20-year absence in the Champions League is more than fine with me,” Dan Burn told Milan News.
The fullback was also asked whether there was any particular Milan player who impressed him during the match.
“I like Leao although maybe in the non-possession phase he can do more (laughs), but with the ball he’s very quick. Then I’m a big fan of left-back Theo Hernandez, a player who is very relaxed on the pitch and then when he has the ball he goes very fast. What a quality.”
He was then asked if he’s a better defender than the Frenchman, but he didn’t want to get into it.
“I take it as a compliment, but I can’t compare myself to Theo Hernandez.”
Following that match, Newcastle had the historic win over Paris Saint Germain which placed them on top of the group. Milan only managed a draw against Borussia Dortmund, and now stand in 3rd.
