The agent of Palermo defender Achraf Lazaar is today in Milan to discuss the future of his client. The Morocco international could still leave Palermo before the deadline, and yesterday was linked with a move to Newcastle United.
TMW have claimed in the last hour that Palermo sporting director Daniele Faggiano is currently holding discussions with Lazaar’s agent with regards to whether the left back will leave the Serie A side this summer.
Lazaar only has 12 months left on his contract at Palermo, and the Sicilian club are concerned if the player doesn’t renew that they risk losing him on the cheap or even on a free next summer.
A number of clubs have been monitoring the situation with Lazaar, but it’s Newcastle United who have made a late move for the defender.
Rafa Benitez is keen to bring in Lazaar before the deadline, and the Spaniard is hoping the player will be prepared to play in the Championship in order to help them bounce back to the Premier League at the first go.
Benitez wants to strengthen the left side of his team, and with Lazaar’s versatility he’s an option open to the North East side.
