According to a claim in the Turkish media, Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez would welcome Martin Skrtel to the club.

In recent days there have been reports Fenerbahce have offered the Slovakia international to the Premier League side.

Gunes have reported on the latest developments with regards to Skrtel’s future with the Turkish side and they say Fenerbahce are still keen to get him off their wage bill.

Skrtel earns over €4m (likely to be after tax) and due to his high cost the Yellow Canaries want to offload him this summer, say Gunes.

It’s claimed Benitez would be interested in a reunion with his former Liverpool player after Newcastle United were linked with the central defender last summer.

Earlier this week it was reported in Turkey that Newcastle United have been offered Skrtel via agents, and it appears those agents may be working on behalf of Fenerbahce.

Skrtel has also been linked with a move to Rangers in recent weeks, but a move to Ibrox now seems very unlikely due to the player’s wage demands, as confirmed by his agent.
