Footballers often have a club which stands out among the rest they’ve played at during their career. The club where they felt most wanted and at home, and the club they continue to look out for.

For Luís Boa Morte that club is Fulham. He played more games for the London side than any other in his career – by far – and there’s a special place in his heart for them.

Importantly, Fulham were able to provide Boa Morte with a platform to shine after he’d gone through a miserable period at Southampton.

Speaking to O Jogo about his career, the coach was asked which club had the most impact on him, and it wasn’t a difficult question to answer: Fulham.

“That’s where I had the most influence, although at Arsenal I won the Premier League, the Cup and the Super Cup. But Fulham says a lot to me: for the promotion, for everything I’ve been through and for having created a connection with the club and the fans. It was very important in my growth as a player and a man. They believed in me when I didn’t count for Southampton.”

After his playing career, Boa Morte moved into coaching, and naturally worked at Fulham as part of his progression. The 46-year-old left a role with Marco Silva’s staff earlier this year and is now the senior manager of Guinea-Bissau’s national side.
