West Ham United are being used by Filip Kostic’s agent to ‘wake up’ other interested parties to a deal.
That’s according to BILD journalist Marc Schmidt, who today provides a scathing looking at the player’s potential move to the London Stadium.
Kostic has been heavily linked with West Ham over the last week or so, with reports making it clear the Hammers are offering him big wages and willing to match Eintracht Frankfurt’s asking price.
A deal is yet to happen and Schmidt doesn’t believe it will either, with West Ham instead being used to drum up interest.
He says that Frankfurt fans have been asking themselves for days what Kostic would get from the move and the answer is ‘nothing’.
In his opinion, a move to West Ham for an annual salary of over €3m is ‘out of the question’, particularly when it comes to sporting reasons. Would the player swap Champions League football for the Conference League? ‘Not on your life’, he argues.
Even a move to London makes little sense, with Schmidt insistent ‘it would have to be Chelsea’ who were knocking for Kostic if the city was the driving factor.
Instead, he believes that Kostic’s agent has made the West Ham offer public in order to ‘finally wake up a club’ that can convince the player to leave Frankfurt. In other words, a club like Juventus or Chelsea that can offer Champions League football.
If that doesn’t happen then ‘one thing is clear’, the player will be staying in Frankfurt as West Ham simply aren’t the ‘real top club’ that he wants.
