Torbjørn Heggem joined Bologna from West Brom on a permanent basis in the summer.
The Baggies earned £10m from the sale and the Norwegian has been off to a flying start in Italy. He was signed to replace Bologna hero Sam Beukema, who played a role in their Coppa Italia victory last season.
Rossoblu sporting director Giovanni Sartori spoke to La Repubblica about the arrival from West Brom. He’s compared him to Beukema, and his words are relayed by BolognaSportNews:
“Who will be the new Beukema? It could be Heggem because reliability is the first of the ten commandments of football and he, like Sam, is a regular.”
BolognaSportNews dig deeper into the reasons for these comments, and praise Heggem for his performances so far.
The 26-year-old is seen as someone who doesn’t have the same technical polish as Beukema. However, his defensive ability and reading of the game is better than the Dutchman.
So far this season, Heggem has played five Serie A games and has impressed in all of those matches. He was particularly impactful against AC Milan, even if Bologna lost the game.
That £10m sent to West Brom could end up looking like a bargain and will encourage further Championship shopping.
