Xavi Simons’ decision to move from his previous agents to another is good news for Arsenal, as it shows he wants a move to the Premier League.
That’s according to De Telegraaf journalist Jeroen Kapteijns, who believes the move to an English representative “is a signal” that the PSV star would like to move to England.
Simons is the star of the show at PSV at this moment in time, having shone last season following a move from PSG last summer.
His performances in the Netherlands have not gone unnoticed and big European sides are believed to be keen on him, including Arsenal.
Several reports have put the Gunners at the front of the queue for the player, with it claimed at the beginning of the month that they were the most concrete suitors in the market.
They were believed to have an advantage thanks to a relationship with agent Darren Dein, the son of former Arsenal co-owner and vice-chairman David Dein.
He became the player’s agent last year, taking him from Mino Raiola’s former agency, which is now run by Rafaela Pimenta, a change that Kapteijns believes is significant.
“PSV were able to do this deal last year because they have a very good relationship with Rafaela Pimenta, the right-hand of the late Mino Raiola, who took over after the latter’s death. Both Marcel Brands and John de Jong had a good relationship with that,” he said.
“This new agent is a new factor, who has nothing specific to PSV: no long-term relationship or other players from PSV under him.
“Surely the fact that Xavi chooses an Englishman indicates that he has ears for a departure to the Premier League, it seems to me.
“There, this Darren Dein has great access and especially at Arsenal, given his background. And that’s kind of a sign too. I don’t really think this is all very helpful for PSV to get the deal they want now.”
