PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joey Veerman is probably now regretting comments he made about Brighton and Hove Albion.

That’s according to journalist Marco Timmer, via Soccer News, who believes the 26-year-old will probably be hoping his comments on Brighton have been forgotten.

The midfielder was not particularly enthusiastic about Brighton last summer when they were chasing a deal for his PSV Eindhoven teammate Oliver Boscagli.

He urged the defender to think carefully about such as move as the Seagulls “will not compete for prizes”, unlike the Dutch side, who had finished the 2023/24 season as champions before retaining it this year as well.

Those comments became a little awkward when the January transfer window rolled around and sever reports indicated that Brighton were one of the sides leading the chase for the PSV Eindhoven star.

There’s every chance that remains the case this summer as Brighton plot another transfer window spend on Fabian Hurzeler’s squad. Even if that isn’t the case, Timmer believes he’ll regret what he said and hope that they can be forgotten, simply so they don’t ruin the reputation he’s built for himself.

“Veerman is of course a great guy, apart from the fact that he is a fantastic footballer for the Eredivisie,” he said.

“Also, because he wears his heart on his sleeve and just says what he thinks. And sometimes he will also think: ‘Maybe it wasn’t smart of me to say that about Brighton & Hove Albion’. Brighton is just the Premier League and performing well there, that is not easy.”

“Jürgen Locadia didn’t succeed there and neither did Davy Pröpper. Just to show you: Brighton is a very good club. So, I think Veerman thinks differently about that too.”
