Newcastle United are edging closer towards completing a deal for AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali in the summer window.
The Magpies continue to look for players in Serie A and have now set their sights on Napoli defender Giovanni Di Lorenzo in the ‘last few hours’.
That’s according to Spazio Napoli, who state Newcastle are ‘looking carefully’ at the 29-year-old and this ‘worries’ the Naples club.
The Serie A winners are warned that they must be careful and attentive to any possible attempts from Eddie Howe’s side in the next few weeks to sign the Italy international.
Spazio Napoli say Newcastle, who are backed by Saudi’s PIF, have the financial resources to take the right-back away from Napoli.
For now, the Premier League side are looking closely at the player and the report doesn’t mention if they are planning to make an offer for him in this window.
Operating as a right-back, Di Lorenzo scored six goals and registered six assists from 47 games last season. This position is occupied by 32-year-old Kieran Trippier at Newcastle, who has been the first-choice right-back since he joined them in January 2022.
