Newcastle United could offer €70m for Atalanta midfielder Teeun Koopmeiners this summer, although that price feels high for the Magpies.

Corriere della Sera Bergamo’s edition cover the player today and the endless phone calls the Italian side are receiving for the Dutchman.

The newspaper explains that the midfielder has been ‘highly coveted’ on the market for some time and particularly after last season when he was a key player in the Italian side’s successful Europa League campaign.

The Italian side know it will be difficult to keep their player any longer, with the 26-year-old also having made it clear that he wants to leave.

Atalanta may sanction that but have made it clear they won’t be accepting anything near €40m, which has been offered by Juventus, and instead want at least the €70m that they believe Premier League sides can offer.

Newcastle United are one of those they feel could offer such a figure for the Dutchman, although that seems a little high for them given the numerous reports about their financial issues and need to sell because of PSR and Financial Fair Play.

That doesn’t appear to have translated to the Italian media, though, where they are convinced Newcastle have a big pot of money to spend and can pay €70m for Koopmeiners.

Either way, Atalanta are facing endless phone-calls regarding the player and the insistence is that some of them may becoming from St James’ Park.
