Newcastle United are considered as contenders for the signing of Napoli defender Kim Min-jae, according to claims from the Italian media.
That’s today revealed on Radio Punto Nuovo, where market expert and former Napoli sporting director Carlo Jacomuzzi made a few comments regarding the player’s future.
The businessman was asked about player’s future, and made it clear that Newcastle could fight for his signing.
“Let’s not forget Newcastle, who have an impressive ownership and if they go to the Champions League they will become a loose cannon on the European market. And they could really come to Italy and raid our strong points,” Jacomuzzi told Radio Punto Nuovo (via Area Napoli).
Kim’s first season with Napoli has been good enough for the defender to draw the attention of several Premier League clubs.
That’s why Manchester United had been mentioned as one of the competitors to sign him.
The Serie A side only paid €18m to sign the defender from Fenerbahce last summer, but with his immediate success in Italy, they know they have a jackpot in hands, even though he currently has a release clause in his contract worth €45-50m (depending on reports) valid for two weeks in the summer.
That’s why they’re trying to give him a new contract and cancel the release clause, because they know clubs like Newcastle could trigger it in a heartbeat, such is the financial power of English teams these days.
