The past few months had been rather rife with rumours surrounding a handful of Manchester United players whose contracts were supposed to end at the end of the season.
Diogo Dalot was one of those, and even with the Red Devils having an option to unilaterally extend his deal, the Barcelona media were hoping they could get something done for a free transfer.
Manchester United have since triggered the extensions in all of the deals, keeping the Portuguese, Fred, Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw for at least an extra year, thus giving them time to decide what to do next with them.
The homegrown forward was always going to be kept due to his status, while the others are of varying use for Erik ten Hag.
Dalot is certainly the one who has been used the most, and that’s why Sport in Spain reckon Barcelona’s chances of getting the Manchester United defender are all but over.
They explain that had he been available on a free, the full-back ‘would have been a priority’, but the fact they would now have to negotiate a fee with the Premier League club, it is ‘difficult to incorporate him’ in their plans.
In fact, the La Liga side now ‘believe that the player will end up reaching an agreement’ with Manchester United ‘to renew for several more seasons’, which, in turn, would put an end to all these stories.
