On Tuesday, Calciomercato reported Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa has rejected a move to Fenerbahce because he’s hoping to find a new club in Serie A to relaunch his career at.
Sportmediaset report today that Atalanta have made moves to land the winger and Napoli have also made initial inquiries about his situation. Neither of the clubs have made a formal bid and amidst a lack of offers, Liverpool’s valuation for the Italian has come down to €10m, according to the report.
The outlet claim that the 27-year-old’s valuation was around €70m just four years ago and note that injuries have played a role in his dramatic downfall. Indeed it’s stated that if a few years ago people had been asked to name the best Italian football then Chiesa would have been right up there and now he won’t get in the national squad unless he changes things.
A reduction in asking price can make it easier for clubs to sign Chiesa, even if there will be problems covering his salary.
Napoli have explored the possibility of making an initial loan offer with the option to buy at €9m, but they are looking for a salary contribution from Liverpool.
This request has slowed down negotiations and Atalanta will also struggle to pay his wage of €7m per season.
Chiesa will have to take a wage cut to get a move back to Serie A, with the ex-Juventus star looking to play under an experienced coach who can take him back to high levels.
