Liverpool star Luis Diaz is being eaten up by anxiety and appears to have lost the sharpness he once thrived off.
That’s according to Colombian icon Tino Asprilla, who says Diaz’s ‘anxiety is eating him up’ at this moment in time.
The former striker was speaking to ESPN following Colombia’s 2-2 draw with Uruguay in World Cup qualifying last night.
The game proved to be a fascinating one, with two attacking sides going all out to secure all three points in a match that was very much an attacking one rather than a defensive one.
Despite two goals each, it could have been very different, with both teams missing chances and lacking the finishing touches to secure all three points.
That was very much the case for Liverpool’s Diaz, who had several opportunities to get his name on the scoresheet but couldn’t take them.
He did not look to be the same man that often shines at Liverpool and has been a star player under Jurgen Klopp again this season, and Asprilla believes he has identified the issue for him.
“The definition in football in the end is everything,” he said.
“Luis Díaz’s anxiety is eating him up, he looks anxious, he did everything right for the definition, but at the moment of impact he raised it, normally in Liverpool that is a goal.
“Also, in other plays he could calmly do other things to define better, but anxiety had him finishing earlier, he dribbled when he didn’t have to dribble and that in soccer is fundamental, that can be seen in every game, when you are not sharp in definition it is impossible to score goals.”
