While Switzerland knocking France out of the Euros on penalties means AS Roma will have to wait a bit longer to get the Granit Xhaka deal over the line, Belgium dispatching the reigning champions Portugal on Sunday night has helped the Rui Patricio transfer.

Corriere dello Sport believe ‘it could be the good week’ for the Serie A side to sign the Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper, as he can now ‘focus exclusively on his future destination’.

First, however, there is a need to ‘finalise the agreement’ with Wolves, which remains an issue.

The Premier League side, despite Patricio being 33 and having just one year left on his contract, want ‘over €10m plus bonuses’, which Roma ‘do not want to climb up to’.

The current offer of €6m is defined as ‘low’, but the belief is some kind of agreement can be reached at €8-9m.

One man is expected to be able to ‘soften the distances’, and that’s Jorge Mendes, who handles both the Wolves goalkeeper and the current AS Roma manager, José Mourinho.

Until that’s done, however, both clubs are at a small impasse, which could make this drag on a bit longer.
