Earlier this month, La Citta di Salerno reported Salernitana have maintained an interest in Neal Maupay since they weren’t able to secure the Everton player’s services in January.
It was also stated the Serie A side are waiting for the Toffees to allow the 26-year-old to leave on a loan deal.
A fresh report from Tutto Salernitana indicates the Italian club believe they can get a discount on the Everton striker this summer.
He struggled in his debut season at Goodison Park, scoring only one goal from 27 league games last season. Maupay failed to impress even after Sean Dyche replaced Frank Lampard in January.
This hasn’t put off Salernitana as they have the former Brighton man and Spezia Calcio’s M’Bala Nzola ‘on pole’ to replace Boulaye Dia, if the latter were to move elsewhere.
The report states Maupay is an ‘old’ desire of both Salernitana CEO Danilo Iervolino and their sporting director, Morgan De Sanctis.
His struggles at Everton last season have lowered his asking price compared to last year and there’s belief this would help the Italian club to sign the attacker on a cheap dead.
If it’s a permanent transfer that will obviously mean a lower fee, and if it’s loan then it’s likely the Italians wouldn’t want to pay a fee and would expect Everton to contribute to his wages.
Tutto Salernitana add Maupay could arrive even if they were to sign Nzola in this window.
