Everton have shown an interested in Genk forward Christopher Bonsu Baah, despite the fact he only joined the Belgian side yesterday.
That’s according to Het Laatste Nieuws, who say Everton ‘inform’ themselves on the youngster as he makes the move to Belgium.
The newspaper explains that Genk have just secured the services of the 18-year-old, paying €5.2m to sign him from Sarpsborg in Norway.
They’ve paid such a big figure for the player to ensure they won the race for his signature after a ‘tough transfer battle’ for him in recent weeks.
On the face of it, the figure seems a high price for a player who has only been playing in Europe since March of this year after swapping Shooting Stars for Norway.
However, he immediately earned himself a starting place in Norway and justified it too, with one goal and two assists in 15 games earning him admirers and praise.
While those numbers are nothing to shout about, they did earn him a nomination for the Golden Boy award and there is a belief he could be a star in the future, hence why Genk moved quickly and decisively to get him.
They’re not the only side to have shown an interest in him, with Brighton also keen and Everton keeping a close eye on his development as well. HLN simply say ‘Everton inform’, which we’ll assume means they’re scouting him and watching him closely.
They’re unlikely to be making any moves this summer, of course, and Genk wouldn’t be selling anyway, but it’s a name to keep an eye on in the future if Bonsu Baah continues his rise with more impressive performances in Belgium next season.
