Everton have no intention of buying Charly Alcaraz for the agreed £15m from Flamengo and will instead get him for cheaper.

That’s according to former Flamengo director Marcos Braz, who has been left unimpressed by the deal and believes the Brazilian sides are kidding themselves about it.

Alcaraz joined Everton on loan at the end of the January transfer window in a deal that includes an obligation for the Toffees to make it permanent in the summer for £15m if the midfielder starts six games before the end of the season.

He’s been edging closer to that over this month, with GE Globo covering how he’s now four starts away from activating the clause after starting the draw with Brentford in midweek.

They explain that there’s a mandatory purchase clause in the loan deal if the Argentine participates in six games as a starter or manages at least 45 minutes in the game. So far, he’s managed two starts and three appearances, but the latter were all for less than 45 minutes so don’t count towards the clause.

If that clause is met, Everton will have to pay £15m for him, while there is also £3m included in bonuses for other goals to be met later.

Braz responded to that report, and it seems is less than impressed by the terms, or Flamengo believing they’ll get those sums.

“Haven’t they realised? He hasn’t and won’t reach the target, the English club will exercise the purchase anyway, that’s gone. He won’t earn Flamengo anywhere near the amount quoted in the article,” he said on X in response to the GE Globo report.

Whether that proves to be the case remains to be seen. It certainly wouldn’t be strange for Everton to hold out on the clause and then re-negotiate the deal in the summer given they need to be careful with their finances.
