A few days ago, even though most of the Brazilian media had been claiming that Crystal Palace’s offer for Matheus França had been of €15m plus €5m in bonuses, we saw a strange report about an agreement for €30m plus €10m.
Well, it turns out that was not taken seriously. The rest of the local press stick to the first version, and there are now some interesting comments about how the Eagles could still make that agreement happen.
Crystal Palace’s offer was now commented by Jovem Pan journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira. In quotes relayed by Torcedores, he explains that the deal shall depend on the bonuses included in the bid.
“What are these variables? If you say that the guy has to be a Premier League champion, it won’t happen. Now if there are variables like playing half of the matches as a starter, scoring five league goals, giving five assists. Numbers compatible with a young player arriving in the Premier League, maybe.”
“He is a player who will end up being sold. There was an attempt by Newcastle, Chelsea and now Palace coming ‘I want the player’.”
It’s worth recalling that those conflicting claims regarding how much Crystal Palace want to pay on França also have very different information on those transfer bonuses.
The offer reported by O Dia, which was of €15m plus €5m, said the Eagles wanted to pay €50k for each ten appearances França had at the club, with a limit of 400 games, totalling €2m. Then there was €2m if he started 20 Premier League games and the club qualified for the Champions League. Plus another €1m if he started 20 league games and they qualified for the Europa League.
Meanwhile, the one from Torcedores, about the €30m plus €10m agreement, said those add-ons are related to goals scored, matches played, titles won and Ballon d’Or standings.
That means the first reported bid is more realistic in all possible ways, and that’s what Mauro Cezar is talking about.
