Wilfried Zaha and the Ivory Coast have a very interesting history after the player chose to represent the African country above turning out for England.
Despite making his debut in 2017, the Crystal Palace forward only has nine caps to his name for the national team, scoring two goals, both of them coming in the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 against Namibia and Mali.
However, for the international break following the competition, Zaha turned down the call-up from Ibrahima Kamara for ‘various reasons’, and Mondial Sport believe he might ‘snob’ them ‘again’ this time around.
The website go through the player’s progress this season, including the recent praise from Roy Hodgson, and state that despite ‘never hiding his love for his country’, Crystal Palace’s packed schedule after the October international fixture could force him to focus on that instead of the national team.
Games against Manchester City, Arsenal, Leicester, Chelsea and Liverpool between October 19th and November 23rd could force the Eagles star to decline the invite.
As they say, it’s ‘nothing official’ just yet, but with all five big reasons to prepare for, Mondial Sport say that seeing Zaha at the Stade de La Licorne in Amiens with the Ivory Coast squad against the Democratic Republic of Congo ‘would be a fantasy’
