PSV Eindhoven “have to be very happy” with the deal they got from Chelsea for Noni Madueke given the player’s recent injury issues.
That’s according to analyst Jan Van Halst, who believes the Dutch side have done “fantastic” work in selling Madueke to the Blues.
The 20-year-old became the latest to rock up at Stamford Bridge last week, joining in a €35m deal from PSV as Chelsea continue to splash the cash and reshape Graham Potter’s squad.
The move was very much a surprise one from the Blues, who already boast an extensive list of wide players in their current group.
Madueke has also struggled this season, making just five appearances in the Eredivisie so far and featuring in just 19% of the available minutes thanks to injuries.
Chelsea’s decision to pay €35m for him seems a strange one then, with that figure seeming a high one for a young player who had hardly shone in the Netherlands and struggled with injury problems this season.
PSV were certainly more than happy to take the money when it was offered and Van Halst believes they should be praised for doing so.
“Madueke, I didn’t even count anymore,” PSV Fans report him saying.
“That one has been injured so many times…. That you can get such an amount for that, you should really be very happy with that. If you look at the policy at PSV, that’s really fantastic what happens here.
“If you see the Ajax before the shine period of the last few years…. They also sold a lot and bought cheaply. That’s how you have to build a club.
“You have to have good equity and PSV hung on the brink a few years ago. The supporters don’t want to hear this and I don’t want to say write off the championship, but this is the best thing that can happen to PSV.”
