Espanyol can “make money” from defender César Montes this summer, with Nottingham Forest keen on the Mexican.
That’s according to journalist Kery Ruiz, who reports that Nottingham Forest are very much in the mix and Espanyol are open to a sale.
Montes has been starring in the Gold Cup with his country this summer, something which has helped to put him in the spotlight once again in this transfer window.
He’s long been linked with a move away from Espanyol following their relegation from La Liga last season, which has already seen several key players depart the squad.
Tonny Vilhena, Victor Gomez, Joselu and Adria Pedrosa have all already secured transfers away and Montes is another first-team star who could join them.
Nottingham Forest have been credited with an interest in months, with it claimed they had asked about him earlier this year, something the player even commented on a month later.
They’re yet to make their move but with Montes back at his club following international duty, Ruiz says there is a potential deal on the cards.
“Now once the possibility of leaving on loan has expired, the two options are to leave, sold, or stay, and the problem is the record (wages),” he told La Grada Radio.
“It is a player that can be quite profitable, because Espanyol could make money with it. The ideal scenario is to get performance out of it, there is interest from the Premier League, first it was Wolves and now there is Nottingham Forest.
“We had to wait for his participation in the Gold Cup to end to be able to talk to the club and decide. But I see César Montes more outside than inside.
“I think it would be lousy business for Espanyol if he closed in those amounts (€10m). That’s why they point him to the Premier League, where it would be easier to get a bigger offer.”
