During the winter market, Aston Villa took Pepe Reina from AC Milan on loan until the end of the season after a serious injury setback to first choice keeper Tom Heaton.

The Serie A side replaced the Spaniard by taking Bournemouth’s Asmir Begović on a temporary deal in January. The Cherries owned goalkeeper’s loan deal also ends after this season.

Milan currently have Begović, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Antonio Donnarumma as three keepers in the squad, while Reina and Alessandro Plizzari are out on loan at Villa and Livorno respectively.

After being left out of the starting XI until November, Plizzari has found continuity with the Serie B side. He has 15 appearances for Livorno.

Milan News claims Plizzari will have to discuss with Milan about his future, while the Rossoneri must take decisions on their other goalkeepers.

It’s claimed Gianluigi Donnarumma will not continue with Milan unless he signs an extension. His brother, Antonio is the third-choice keeper and hasn’t featured for the club.

The Italian outlet also talks about Reina and it’s stated the former Liverpool man will return to his parent club after finishing the loan spell with Aston Villa. This would then force Begović to return to Bournemouth.

In short, prolonged spells, either via a permanent transfer or a new loan aren’t thought likely for Reina and Begovic.
