There’s good news and there’s bad news.
First with the cheery stuff. In a development which will please the many West Ham fans keen for the midfielder to arrive, the Hammers have made an offer for Anderlecht’s Leander Dendoncker.
The bad news is it’s been rejected by the Belgian club.
HLN report West Ham made an offer this morning after it became apparent getting Tom Cairney from Fulham would be difficult.
It hasn’t yet been leaked how big the West Ham offer was, but Anderlecht are said to be keen to keep the player. The Belgium club have spoken openly about a potential transfer this month and made it clear a move is possible, so the rejection is likely to be due to the amount West Ham have put on the table.
Should it be a big offer from West Ham then it’s sure Anderlecht will release the figure soon, so it makes them look strong in the transfer market and drives up Dendoncker’s perceived value.
Earlier on Wednesday we covered claims from Belgium that Dendoncker is waiting for West Ham to bid more than €20m and secure a deal.
Earlier this month Anderlecht general manager Herman Van Holsbeeck spoke to DH, and had the following question put to him: “Dendoncker, on the other hand, is highly courted, notably by West Ham.”
Van Holsbeeck responded: “If you let go of your centrepiece, it must be for a lot of money and we must also be able to find someone to replace him, even for 6 months via a loan.”
DH then asked: “It can be done?”
The Anderlecht boss answered: “If there’s €25m or €30m on the table, it can be done, yes.”
