KRC Genk sealed a 1-0 win over Rangers on Thursday evening. Oh Hyeon-gyu’s 55th minute goal saw the visitors beat Russell Martin’s side at Ibrox.

The former Celtic striker came close to giving Genk the lead in the first half and even missed a penalty before the break. Rangers were down to 10 men after Mohamed Diomande was sent off in the 41st minute.

Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws didn’t hold back when covering Rangers’ performance in their latest defeat.

Rangers and Genk entered the Europa League clash at Ibrox after poor runs this season. The Jupiler Pro League club had talked about getting a result against Russell Martin’s side to turn their season around.

HLN say Rangers ‘announced themselves as a wounded animal’ and although they lost to Club Brugge [1-3 and 6-0] in the Champions League qualifiers last month, Genk still had to be cautious.

The Scottish club, according to the outlet, ‘barely posed any threat’. They add some of their players seemed to be ‘playing with fear’ as the ‘disgruntled’ Rangers fans had made themselves heard.

HLN say Genk deserved to take the lead against Rangers, a club that is in ‘deep crisis’.

They go on to state: ‘Rangers tried to mount a final offensive with their ten men, but they held firm against Racing Genk. After 19 matches, finally a clean sheet for the Limburg side. The victory in Scotland is a boost for Fink and his players. A crucial week has started well: the derby in Sint-Truiden awaits on Sunday.’
