Barnsley are interested in Hertha Berlin forward Pascal Köpke, with Gerhard Struber looking to add to his squad this summer.
The Austrian boss is expected to overhaul his side during this transfer window, with them having narrowly avoided relegation from the Championship last season.
Adding goals will be a particular aim given Barnsley managed just 49 in the league last season, the second-lowest in the division, one more than Middlesbrough on 48.
And according to Kicker, an option they are considering is Köpke, with the newspaper saying they have ‘shown their interest’ alongside German side FC Nürnberg.
That is the most they can offer at this point, failing to make it clear whether Barnsley have made a bid or even contacted Hertha about a potential move.
They also fail to mention whether the Germans are open to a move but given the striker managed just six appearances in all competitions last season; it’s hard to imagine they wouldn’t be.
At this stage, any move seems to be in the very early stages, with Barnsley having only shown an interest at most.
