Sunday evening’s big match in La Liga sees Sevilla travel to Catalonia to face Barcelona.

The Blaugrana are currently five points adrift at the head of La Liga, and Jorge Sampaoli’s side find themselves in 14th position, far lower than they’d like to be.

On top of that they’re also ten points behind their great city rivals Real Betis. Sevilla tried to address matters in the January window, and part of that effort has seen them sign Bryan Gil from Tottenham Hotspur.

The loan deal sees Gil again return to Spanish football, after a spell with Valencia last year. Sunday’s edition of AS reports that in different circumstances the Tottenham player could have been lining up for Barcelona this evening.

It’s explained the Camp Nou side have been trying to ‘capture’ Gil since he was coming through the youth system at Sevilla. Attempts were made to secure the signing, but the player’s family thought it was best that he stayed where he was.

Now back there, via his Tottenham experience, Gil again has the chance to capture the attention in Barcelona. Should he do so this evening, then it’s clearly positive news for Spurs, whether they decide to give him a real chance next season or seek a permanent transfer.
