Earlier today, we covered claims from Spain which stated Aston Villa are in picture to sign Celta Vigo’s Óscar Mingueza in the winter market.

Mundo Deportivo relay this and then provide their take on Aston Villa’s interest in the right-back.

Unai Emery has identified the 25-year-old as one of the main targets for Aston Villa in this window as the manager appreciates him.

Barcelona are getting excited over the possibility of the Premier League side making an approach to sign the defender.

Mingueza came up through the ranks of the Catalan club’s youth system and joined Celta Vigo on a permanent transfer in 2022. He signed a deal until 2026, and the report says it includes a €20m release clause and Barca have an option to buy him back for €10m.

The Blaugrana aren’t willing to buy him because they have an urgent need to raise funds to register Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor for the second half of the season.

Mundo state Hansi Flick’s side will receive 50% of the fee from Mingueza’s sale and are rubbing their hands together because of Aston Villa’s interest in the Spaniard.

If Emery’s side were to buy him, it can help Barca raise funds and help them solve their financial concerns.
