Barcelona and Manchester City were the subject of repeated transfer stories during the summer window, with it thought, and likely hoped by the Catalan media, that deals could be found which would be beneficial to both clubs.

As far as those closest to Barcelona hoped, Manchester City could take some fringe players from the Blaugrana, at the same time helping them with their wages issues, and that could see players such as Aymeric Laporta move in the opposite direction.

It all seemed overly optimistic from a Barcelona standpoint, and that was further underlined recently with the claims around Raheem Sterling.

Sport report Barcelona made an attempt to sign Ferran Torres from Manchester City.

Given how highly Pep Guardiola rates the player, how well he’s been progressing since moving to the Premier League, and Barcelona’s lack of transfer funds, the whole thing seemed doomed from the start.

Sport say Manchester City slammed the door in Barca’s face, and that was that.
