German star Ilkay Gundogan has been enjoying his role as an advanced midfielder at Manchester City, after Pep Guardiola decided to change his position.
Gundogan mostly played as a central midfielder or defensive midfielder at Borussia Dortmund under Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel, but has been among the goals in his new position.
Telefoot report Barcelona had an agreement in principle to sign Gundogan, but the Catalan club had demanded an additional medical examination of the German midfielder.
The results of the medical examination revealed there was a great risk of a relapse of his back injury, and that prompted Barcelona to give up on him.
Barcelona’s loss was Manchester City’s gain, as the Premier League side acted quickly to sign the 26-year-old.
It’s been reported Manchester City offered Gundogan €120,000/week, and showed great confidence in the German midfielder, unlike Barcelona.
Gundogan already has 5 goals and 2 assists to his name this season, and seems to be a great buy at €27m.
