Leeds United may have just been given their latest chance to sign Bamba Dieng from Marseille as he has failed a medical at Lorient.
Journalist Saber Desfarges reports that ‘concern’ during Dieng’s medical visit at Lorient, who he was set to join from Marseille, has put an end to any potential move to the French club and the player now ‘returns to Marseille.’
If that sounds familiar, it is exactly what happened to Dieng during the summer when he was linked with a move to Leeds.
They had chased Dieng’s signature throughout the window and believed they had got their man before he instead elected not to travel to Elland Road and join Nice.
That move didn’t happen at the last minute because Dieng then failed his medical at Nice, who cancelled the deal and left him at Marseille.
The same thing now appears to have happened at Lorient, which may be of interest to Leeds as they are reportedly still interested in the striker.
A report yesterday stated they had returned for their summer target ‘at the last moment’ to explore a potential move.
The suggestion was that the effort was a wasted one as he was on his way to Lorient but now that deal appears to be off after he failed his medical.
Whether that means Leeds could now jump in and finally get a deal done for Dieng remains to be seen, but they have been presented with another option to get a player.
