Nottingham Forest may have been given their second shot at a deal for Atalanta defender Merih Demiral, who is ‘back up for sale’ this summer.

That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who say the Turkish defender ‘will leave Atalanta’ in this summer transfer window.

TMW explain that the former Juventus centre-back is ‘not in the plans’ of manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who is set to sign a new contract at the club next week.

He’s found little space in the team this season and has never really been integrated into the manager’s plans, so a departure is ‘expected’ this summer.

Demiral was already on the verge of leaving in the January transfer window when he had interest from Inter Milan and he ‘refused an offer’ from Nottingham Forest.

Now, though, there is more time to find a solution to the issue, with Atalanta already moving to source a replacement for him.

That gives Nottingham Forest a second shot at getting a deal done as they continue their spending and improve Steve Cooper’s side after securing Premier League football for another season.

With the defence remaining an issue for much of the campaign Demiral could be a smart addition and there is certainly a deal there to be done if they want it.
