Lyon’s Rachid Ghezzal was repeatedly linked with a move to Everton during the summer transfer window.
It was reported the Merseyside club had an offer accepted by Lyon, and offered the player a salary of €400,000/month.
The Algerian international has one year left on his current contract, and is discussing a new contract with the Ligue 1 club. The 24-year-old has been speaking to French TV channel Canal+ (via RMC Sport), and was asked about the offer from Everton.
Ghezzal insists the offer from Everton wasn’t tempting, as Lyon are currently playing in the Champions League, and it’s not about the money.
He said: “It’s not just the money that interests me. I also look at the sporting prospects. We play in the Champions League, and have a good group.
“I wouldn’t go for the money. Everton was less interesting than Lyon.”
Ghezzal also confirmed he is negotiating a new contract with Lyon, and both parties a re very keen on finding an agreement.
