Jorge Luis Pinto is something of a football management institution in Colombia. The 71-year-old is currently out of work but during his career he’s had – wait for it – no less than 25 management jobs.
Some of those have been the same club, or even country in the case of Costa Rica, more than once, and he’s obviously managed the Colombian national side.
He’s been speaking to El Heraldo, one of the major Colombia newspapers, and the topic of attackers for the national team came up. Of course, that meant him being asked to give an opinion on Aston Villa’s Jhon Jader Durán.
The 20-year-old has struggled for minutes under Unai Emery this season, and that’s caused some concern in his home country at times.
Jorge Luis Pinto doesn’t share that concern and believes the youngster will soon be shining for Aston Vill and then naturally the national side.
El Heraldo quote him as saying: “Which is the Colombian striker that I like the most at the moment? I like Durán. Jhon Jader in one year is the typical good, good centre forward. He is soon going to start playing. He has the positioning, he has the punch, he knows how to position himself and he heads better.”
There we have it, backing from a management institution who is looking for his 26th job.
