Believe it or not, Mirco Antenucci is still playing football at the age of 38, currently turning out for Bari in Serie B, where he has been since 2019 .
The former Leeds striker, who arrived at Elland Road from Ternana during the Massimo Cellino years, continues to find the back of the net semi-regularly, with six goals in 20 appearances so far this season in Italy’s second tier.
Antenucci signed for the Whites in 2014 for €750k, and stayed for two seasons before leaving on a free transfer to SPAL in 2016, where he stayed until his move to Bari.
During his time with Leeds, the striker made 80 appearances, most of which came in the Championship, and scored 19 goals and also picked up eight assists.
In fact, it’s a time of his life that he looks back on fondly, recalling in 2020 that he still loves the club, and it’s a feeling that stays with him to this day.
Asked about his time at Leeds in an interview with Numero Diez, he said: “I wanted to try an experience outside of Italy and my favourite country was definitely England. I was lucky because sporting director Nicola Salerno gave me the chance to play at Leeds. It was a wonderful experience, where I was lucky enough to know another type of football and live in another country.
“My first daughter was born there, and so I’m still very attached to that city. When my contract expired, I received other offers from the Championship, but with my wife, we decided to return to Italy because my two girls were still very young.”
