Atletico Madrid have a ‘great desire’ to sign Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, according to Marca.
The La Liga side are in the market for a striker, and their focus is on the 24-year-old. They are aware it won’t be easy to negotiate a deal with the Citizens, but efforts are ongoing to try to sign him.
Alvarez has a long-term deal [until 2028] at Manchester City, and Atletico are unlikely to match his salary demands. This hasn’t put them off.
Pep Guardiola has favoured Erling Haaland ahead of Alvarez in the last two years, and Marca say Los Rojiblancos will use the lure of regular playing time to tempt him to join them.
The Argentina international could consider leaving Manchester City, more so if they were to bring in a new attacker in the summer window.
Marca say Atletico have made first contact to find out if the World Cup winner favours joining them, but there have been no discussions with Manchester City so far.
Atletico’s Nahuel Molina, Angel Correa and Rodrigo De Paul have informed Alavrez of the advantages of representing the club. The trio could also try to find out if he’s willing to join them in Madrid, having those chats during the Copa America.
In short, Simeone’s side are aware it’ll be a complex operation, but they are going to give it a try. They have taken the first step by initiating contact with Alvarez’s camp.
