Atalanta will host Arsenal in the Champions League at the Gewiss Stadium on Thursday.
Gian Piero Gasperini could be without Ben Godfrey for the European clash against Arsenal.
That’s at least what Tutto Atalanta are reporting, and they explain Gasperini has ‘limited choices’ in defence.
La Dea took Godfrey from Everton in the summer window, but he hasn’t enjoyed a good start since arriving in Italy.
The centre-back has been limited to 49 minutes of action from two matches. He had to miss last weekend’s league win over Fiorentina due to injury.
Tutto Atalanta state the 26-year-old won’t be able to recover in time to face Arsenal on Thursday. At this point, he will ‘most likely’ be left out of the squad to face Mikel Artetat’s side.
The England international could be in contention to face Como in Serie A on Monday. La Dea’s Giorgio Scalvini is out for the long term, after suffering a serious knee injury in June. Rafael Tolói is also on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury.
With Godfrey ‘still unavailable’, Gasperini [who plays three at the back] is now left with Berat Djimsiti, Isak Hien and Sead Kolasinac as the three centre-backs to face Arsenal.
