A week ago, we covered Aston Villa’s interest in signing Stade Rennais’ Lorenz Assignon but it now seems as if there is more competition for the right-back, who spent last season in England.

The previous report stated the defender’s future lies away from the Ligue 1 club and he has the desire to move away.

TuttoAtalanta have provided an update on the 24-year-old, who wasn’t signed permanently by Burnley after his loan stint last season. There is now interest from Atalanta, who have asked for information about the player.

Assignon continues to be ‘followed’ by Aston Villa, but there now seems to be a tussle as La Dea’s interest is rising.

The full-back is valued at €11m for Rennais, with Burnley having tried to sign him after the loan stint, but the Frenchman wasn’t interested in playing in the second division.

Both Villa and Atalanta will play in the Champions League next season, so it remains to be seen if that impacts Assignon’s decision regarding his future.
