Wolverhampton Wanderers are yet to register a win in the Premier League this season.
Gary O’Neil’s side have lost seven of their eight league games, and their poor start sees them in 20th spot. Wolves have one point and are three points behind 17th placed Ipswich Town.
Over in La Liga, Valencia are currently occupying the 20th spot, with six points from 10 matches.
Friday’s edition of Levante EMV covers Wolves and the La Liga side’s poor start to the season. The two clubs are now ‘at the bottom’ of their respective league tables, and the local Valencia newspaper finds one clear link.
The Spanish club have regularly struggled, both financially and sporting wise, under Peter Lim’s ownership. Jorge Mendes has close ties with the Singaporean businessman and the Premier League side.
In the past few years, some of Mendes’ clients, Fábio Silva, Matheus Nunes and Gonçalo Guedes arrived at Wolves from FC Porto, Sporting and Valencia for €40m, €47.5m and €18m [reported figures] respectively.
Levante EMV are critical of Mendes’ involvement at both Wolves and Valencia.
They end their report by stating: ‘In short, Valencia and Wolverhampton now live at the bottom of the table after seeing how Jorge Mendes put his paws in both clubs. It was never the solution, beyond aid in specific cases that did allow access to good footballers, and in some way it has been a problem. The club model, at least at these levels, has been shown to not work with Mendes.’
