Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali could be one of the biggest names on the move during the summer transfer window.
Noise around the Italian has only increased in recent weeks. A couple of days ago, Sport Witness covered comments from his agent Giuseppe Riso which made a transfer sound possible.
He also described Tonali as probably the highest valued Italian player in the game right now.
The Italian media loves Tonali speculation, constantly linking him a move to Juventus.
Now, it seems like there are growing voices that are pushing the Newcastle United player to stay in England.
Tonali’s return to Italy dismissed
Journalist Peppe Di Stefano spoke to Radio Rossonera about the midfielder’s future at St James’ Park. He made it clear that Newcastle United’s high asking price should rule out a move back to Italy.
He said – relayed by PianetaMilan: “I think Newcastle’s demands are out of reach for Italian clubs. Sandro is worth €80m-€100m. Who can afford that? I hope he stays in the Premier League, or at least at a top-tier club.”
Di Stefano suggested AC Milan as a romantic destination but urged the player to stay in England.
“Then everyone’s hope is a return to AC Milan, but that’s impossible right now. Sandro shouldn’t even consider returning to Italy. He’s one of the best midfielders in the world, and he’s got a Premier League engine.”
The journalist clarified that Milan should hope for his return to the San Siro but it won’t happen anytime soon. He also appeared to mock the Rossoneri for their low spending capacity.
“The mistake was selling him, but now how can you even think about signing him for those figures if you don’t spend more than €30m.
“In the future, I hope he can achieve the second part of his dream: to play for AC Milan again and be their captain, but everyone will have to hope for that. These aren’t the right times; Sandro’s worth too much to even consider a return to Italy.”
No reason for Tonali to return to Serie A
Apart from the emotional aspect, there is no reason for the Newcastle United player to return to Serie A. He’s already won the Scudetto once, also playing in the Champions League with the Rossoneri.
Riso’s words also indicated his desire to play at a higher level in the Premier League. Financially, only the biggest of clubs in England can afford the 24-year-old in the summer. Milan and Juventus rarely spend big on players and are likely to rely on swap deals or initial loans.
Newcastle United have no reason to give discounts in a possible deal either. There could be clubs in England – like Arsenal and Manchester City, who can meet their valuation and easily beat the Italian sides to Tonali’s signature.
