Last week, Aston Villa director Monchi reportedly offered Douglas Luiz to Juventus during his trip to Italy, after the Brazil international decided to leave Villa Park in the summer window.
It was also stated the Villans officials had asked the Serie A side about Weston McKennie.
Sky Italia state the Turin club are focusing on the complex deal involving the 25-year-old American and the Aston Villa midfielder.
McKennie’s contract lasts until 2025 and without a renewal, the Old Lady are likely to make him available in the market. Luiz, on the other hand, has two years left on his deal.
It’s explained that ‘work is underway’ to carry out an exchange deal, but the problem is the valuation imposed by Aston Villa and Juve on Luiz and McKennie respectively.
The Italian club are quoting €30m for the American and Aston Villa value the 26-year-old South American at €60m. Sky add Luiz is requesting a deal worth €6.5m per year.
The difference in valuation and Luiz’s salary request has slowed down the negotiations, but the deal isn’t dead yet.
On Monday, Italian journalist Luca Momblano indicated Aston Villa are unwilling to meet Juve’s request of around €25m for the former Schalke man.
With Sky quoting €5m more for McKennie, it’s probably best for Monchi and Aston Villa to look at other options in the market. The link seems a little odd anyway given how unimpressive the midfielder was at Leeds United.
