On Tuesday, La Voz de Asturias and La Nueva España both reported Leander Dendoncker, has arrived in Spain to complete his move to Real Oviedo, after ‘rescinding his contract’ with Aston Villa.
The Belgium international returned to Villa Park in the summer after spending last season on loan at Anderlecht. He had entered his final of year contract and wasn’t part of Unai Emery’s plans this season.
Real Oviedo offered him an escape route, and the 30-year-old left Aston Villa to join them permanently yesterday. The Villans confirmed his exit on their official website, saying that he’s joining the La Liga newcomers for an “undisclosed fee”.
Wednesday’s edition of La Nueva España addresses the undisclosed fee claim, and essentially says it was undisclosed because there wasn’t one.
Despite the Premier League side mentioning an agreement with Real Oviedo, La Nueva España report this is misleading.
They have found out from sources involved in this operation that the midfielder arrived at Real Oviedo after terminating his contract with Aston Villa.
Dendoncker, who can also operate as a centre-back, trained with his new teammates on Tuesday.
