Aston Villa failed with their efforts to sign Sevilla’s Marcos Acuña in the last window.

The Villans were keen on bringing the left-back to Villa Park and Sevilla president Pepe Castro had revealed the English club’s approach for the player. He also opened the door for the 31-year-old’s transfer when discussing Aston Villa’s offer.

Today’s AS takes a look at the defender’s failed move to Aston Villa, when explaining his poor start to this season.

The Argentina international has made only six appearances, being forced to spend over a month on the sidelines due to injury.

After been ‘dodged by controversies’ last season, it’s stated that Acuña was distracted this season by Aston Villa’s approach.

Back in June, Monchi left the Europa League winners to join the English club, and was leading their pursuit of the South American.

AS mention the ‘ridiculous proposal’ made by Monchi, and it’s clear there was some annoyance at Sevilla regarding their former director.

Earlier this month, Grada3 reported Unai Emery has asked Aston Villa to make another attempt to sign Acuña in January.
