Last summer, Aston Villa showed keen interest in signing Marcos Acuña and even tabled an offer, which was turned down by Sevilla.
The left-back has struggled with injuries and has also been reduced to a substitute role this season.
Taking this into account, Canal Sur Radio, relayed by Vamos Mi Sevilla FC, claim the La Liga side made a mistake by rejecting Aston Villa’s offer.
It’s said Unai Emery’s side offered €7m plus €3m bonuses for the Argentina international last summer and this would now be seen with ‘different eyes’ at the Andalusian club.
The report adds the same proposal ‘now seems more than appealing’ for a player who has not managed to shine so far this season.
On Wednesday, claims from the UK had reported the 32-year-old is still on the Villans’ agenda but their priority is to sign a new right-back this month. This is relayed by another report from Vamos Mi Sevilla FC, who then give their own take on the World Cup winner.
The South American is ‘very upset’ with the Spanish club for blocking his transfer to Aston Villa. The player’s deal lasts until 2025, and last summer his club requested €12-15 for him.
The outlet explains that Sevilla have lowered the price and if there’s an offer of around €7-8m, they are more willing to part ways with Acuña.
Time will tell whether Aston Villa will return for him either in January or next summer.
