Aston Villa youngster Yeimar Mosquera has started to appear in transfer discussions ahead of the summer window.
Reports from Argentina suggested one of the country’s biggest clubs have received positive feedback on the defender.
The Colombian joined Villa from Orsomarso in 2023. He has spent much of his time developing away from the senior spotlight. He spent the 25/26 season with the U21 team. Previously, he was out on loan to Spanish lower-league side Real Union. There, he gained valuable experience and regular minutes.
At 21, Mosquera still has time on his side. His profile continues to attract interest thanks to his athleticism and potential. Villa will likely want him playing regularly wherever he ends up next season.
Fresh interest from Argentina
Argentine newspaper Olé reports Independiente are searching for defensive reinforcements after manager Gustavo Quinteros requested at least one new centre-back. Several names are being assessed, including Mosquera, whose rights belong to Aston Villa.
The 21-year-old Colombian is not currently at the top of Independiente’s shortlist. According to the report, former Huracán defender Lucas Merolla is the preferred target. León’s Valentín Gauthier is also ahead in the queue. Nevertheless, Mosquera remains on the club’s radar.
Olé explain that Mosquera was offered to Independiente and that club officials have received positive reports on the defender. For now, however, he is considered an alternative rather than a priority signing.
The development is another indication that Aston Villa could be looking at options for the youngster’s future this summer. Mosquera remains highly regarded, but first-team opportunities at Villa Park have been difficult to find.
Positive reports but no priority status
Yeimar Mosquera’s appearance in Independiente’s recruitment discussions does not yet point towards an imminent transfer. The Argentine side are exploring multiple options. Currently, they appear focused elsewhere.
Even so, the fact he has been offered to a club of Independiente’s stature shows he has generated positive internal assessments. This suggests there is an active market forming around the Aston Villa defender.
As the summer window gathers pace, more clubs could enter the conversation if Villa decide another loan or a permanent move is the best route for his development.
