With Romelu Lukaku struggling for form at Inter Milan, there has been talk of him returning to Chelsea, at which point Aston Villa could swoop him to give him an escape route.
It appears almost certain that Unai Emery will add a striker to his squad in the next transfer window, but who that man will be isn’t clear yet.
Another name that has been linked with a move, or in his case a return, to Aston Villa is Tammy Abraham, who spent a season on loan at Villa Park in the past, and the latest is brought to use by AS Roma Live on Monday.
His former side have an €80m buy-back clause which they are unlikely to trigger, while other interested parties have moved onto other targets.
AS Roma Live now state that ‘only Aston Villa are tempting the Giallorossi’, and they would be ‘willing to offer €40m’ to bring him back to England.
Such an amount would ‘guarantee Roma a small capital gain’, and the belief, as reported last week, is that this could be enough to convince them to sell.
Something to keep in mind going forward as we head into an international break where transfer stories are bound to be plentiful with no club football to talk about.
