Aston Villa want to sign Switzerland star Djibril Sow in the January transfer window, but face competition from West Ham United for his signature.
That’s according to Sport 1, who say the Premier League duo will need an ‘insane offer’ above €30m to convince Eintracht Frankfurt into a sale.
The website reports that after ‘playing a strong World Cup’ in Qatar, clubs from the Premier League want to sign Sow next month.
They’ve all appreciated his ‘ball security, running strength (and) passing power’ and those, among other reasons, have caused clubs from England to ‘put out feelers’ for him.
Aston Villa and West Ham are among those are keen and they ‘want to lure him’ from Germany if they can.
Neither side have made a bid as yet, indeed the only concrete offer to arrive for the player was from Nottingham Forest in the summer.
Eintracht Frankfurt are not keen on a sale either, with sporting director Markus Krösche confirming there are interested parties but insisting “we don’t want to sell any player in the winter.”
That stance could change if the club were to receive an ‘insane offer’ for the player, which would have to break the €30m mark. Only then would the German side be ‘shaken’.
That pain threshold is high, to say the least, and the midfielder’s agent José Noguera Rodriguez from the agency Signature AG has refused to comment on the situation.
He has previously admitted he wants a move to the Premier League, though, and he has refused to extend his current deal, which expires in 2024.
That means Eintracht need to sell if they want to avoid a free transfer next year, a scenario they are already facing with Evan N’Dicka and Daichi Kamada and don’t want repeated.
Sport 1 report that both the player and the club are ‘aiming for a good solution’, which opens the door for Aston Villa and West Ham to try and get him next month. If not, a summer departure is ‘very likely’.
