There appears to be a strange connection between West Ham and Marseille midfielders, as every time one seems to be close to an exit, or touted for one, the Hammers are seemingly always on the case.

Perhaps it’s because of their past with Dimitri Payet, but after Morgan Sanson, we now have Maxime López being linked with a move to London Stadium.

They are joined by both Tottenham and Aston Villa, as it looks increasingly likely the Marseille born and bred 22-year-old could be on his way out.

Starting just 13 games under André Villas-Boas in the league this season, the youngster hasn’t managed to convince he deserves much more, and with a contract expiring in 2021, this summer is a likely time for an exit while still being able to cash in on years of hard work developing him.

As well as the Premier League trio, Sevilla in Spain have been after López, and Estadio Deportivo confirm this by explaining Monchi has contacted the player’s entourage directly.

Moving to Spain appears to be the 22-year-old’s preference compared to a move to England, and the La Liga side ‘appear like a real oasis’ for him, aware his style of play suits Spanish football far more than what we are used to on this side of the Channel.

Furthermore, having grown up in the south of France his entire life, he is far more drawn to the lifestyle in Spain than what he would get from living in London or Birmingham.

Estadio Deportivo do, however, push the fact that West Ham and Aston Villa are ‘ready to make a major economic expenditure’ for him, but we’ll have to wait and see if that convinces him to choose rainy England over the attractions listed above.

Also, if you had the choice of playing under Dean Smith, David Moyes or Julen Lopetegui, who would you choose?

As a diminutive budding technical midfielder, our money is on somewhere other than West Ham or Aston Villa, and Estadio Deportivo clearly feel Sevilla are in the lead here.
